United Airlines plans to launch a new year-round nonstop service between San Francisco and Brisbane, Australia, the carrier announced Wednesday, claiming it is the first airline to add a new transpacific route to its network since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The flights are scheduled to commence Oct. 28 and would operate three times weekly using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft that will include 48 lie-flat United Polaris business-class seats, 21 United Premium Plus seats, 39 Economy Plus seats and 149 Economy seats, according to United.

Customers will be able to connect from Brisbane to nearly 20 other cities within Australia via United’s partnership with Virgin Australia.
